Carbon Monoxide detectors should be replaced as needed

Personal experience has taught me that I need to think differently about the carbon monoxide detectors in my home. This teaching moment came to me when we discovered the heat exchanger in our 5 year old furnace had a broken seal and CO readings were exceeded 125ppm. When we checked our CO detectors they were over 7 years old. Since the recommended replacement cycle is 5 years, we thought it would be wise to replace them.
